ARTIST: Marco Mahler & Henry Segerman
TITLE: Mobile 1
Displays: Hangs from ceiling
Height (w/out hanging wire): 5 in
Max Width: 5 in
Weight: <1 lbs
3D printed (laser sintered nylon plastic), comes out of the 3D-printer completely assembled as shown, balance points in the 3d model were calculated to 1/1000th of a millimeter (1/25360th of an inch).
The 3D-Printed Mobile 1 is very small, less than 5 inches. I could mail/bring a bunch of them and we'd have them for sale for maybe $15 each, for anyone who'd like to buy something but maybe can't afford the more expensive handmade pieces.
Taken from Mahler’s website: These 3D printed mobiles are the result of collaboration between Marco Mahler, a kinetic sculptor specializing in mobiles, and Henry Segerman, assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics at Oklahoma State University. After about 300 emails, several conversations over Skype, hundreds of lines of code, and a number of test prints and trial-and-error experiments, the result is a collection of mobiles that (after an extensive Google search) appear to be the first fully 3D printed mobiles in the world.
