This mobile was commissioned. The client provided her pre-owned hand blown glass balls for the mobile. My primary design goal was to maximize motion of the relatively heavy glass orbs. This was achieved by attaching the balls to light weight paddles, allowing long moment arms to maximize torque from the wind. Three balls and four paddles alternate in the stacked design. The mobile does achieve good motion with an interesting tug-of-war between the light paddles and heavy balls.
