Movie reels, 35 mm movie film, slides removed from mounts that advertise refreshments and present movie trivia.
This piece was made using old movie trailers (probably from the 1990's), reels from home movies and educational films, and slides once used in pre-digital movie theaters to promote movies, sell refreshments and present trivia. The slides dated around 2000 include a Freeze Frame image of Hannibal Lecter as well as two slides featuring Up and Coming Stars, Mila Kunis and Ben Stiller. Older technologies like these are endowed with history; but in this time of escalating technology the thrill of “THE NEW” can cause amnesia to the loss of the once fundamental relationship we had with these technologies. The strips of 35mm film are attached using swivels so they will respond to air moving through the space.
The obsolescence of once significant technologies and our relationship with them, has been, and will continue to provide an ongoing theme for my artwork.
